Overview

Ideal for care homes with service users who require catheters and ensures that delegates understand what catheterisation is and the risks involved with it. Delegates will gain an insight into types of catheters and why they are necessary as well as types of incontinence and how they are caused. A large part of the course also focuses on training methods so new instructors won’t struggle to answer any difficult questions from their trainees.

  • The purpose of urinary catheterisation.
  • Causes and types of incontinence.
  • Risks involved with catheterisation.
  • Types of catheters.
  • Inserting a catheter.

Train the Trainer Elements:

  • Teaching methods and learning styles.
  • How individuals learn and keep information.
  • Feeding back productively.
  • Evaluating.
  • Icebreakers.
  • Presenting information.
  • ‘Do’s and don’ts’.

Course Assessment

The Catheter Train the Trainer course takes 1 day to complete. Delegates will be expected to engage in several involved group activities and, during the teaching part, will be evaluated on their knowledge and ability to train others.
